Coronavirus Cleaning Tips

February 29th, 2020 · No Comments

With the rapid spread of the coronavirus, many people are wondering how they can disinfect their homes to better protect themselves from viruses and bacteria. Here are some cleaning tips to help cleanse your home of germs including the coronavirus and flu:

1) Disinfect Surface Areas – Viruses, including the coronavirus, have the ability to live on surface tops for hours. With this in mind, it is very important to disinfect the surface areas all around your house that may have come in contact with a sick person. Extra care and attention should be given to areas where an infected person was confined (i.e. bedroom and bathroom). An antibacterial cleaner, such as 409 Antibacterial All-Purpose Cleaner, should be used on surface areas that include countertops, tabletops, door knobs, sinks, light switches, bathtub and toilet. When you spray these areas, let the product rest on the surfaces for a minute or so and then wipe away. The surface should still look a bit wet after you wipe it clean. Allow this to dry.

2) Disinfect Hard Surface Floors – You may want to try distilled white vinegar or you can purchase a disinfectant such as Lysol® All-Purpose Cleaner. Take a mop and submerge it in the solution allowing it to soak up the product. Once this is done, proceed to mop all hard surface flooring. Allow the product to sit on the floor for 5 minutes or so before rinsing and giving the floor time for an air dry.

3) Clean Clothing and Linens – All clothes, bed sheets and towels should be put in the laundry machine to rid them from possible exposure to coronavirus and other bacteria/viruses. We recommend using a laundry detergent that kills bacteria such as Lysol® Laundry Sanitizer. Using a warm water cycle may also help kill germs. Allow the washer time to complete its full cycle and then continue on by placing the clothes and linens in the dryer to dry.

While we cannot completely control our exposure to coronavirus and other illnesses outside of our homes, we can certainly make an effort to control the environment on the inside. If you are anxious about the spread of coronavirus, try these cleaning tips to help put your mind a bit more at ease. At the very least, you will have yourself a clean home. Stay safe everyone!
